Casio Watches Worn by Celebrities - Intro

This list sticks to Casio's classic digital and calculator watches: the F-91W, the A158, the CA-53, the Duro. No G-Shocks. G-Shock is technically a Casio product, but it's a different category with a different audience, and most "celebrities who wear Casio" lists pad their numbers with the same six rappers wearing a DW-6900 to stay off the same six lists everyone else made. This one is narrower on purpose. Nineteen watches, four categories, one company: actors, musicians, athletes, and a handful of people who run the world, all photographed in a watch that costs less than a nice dinner.

Ryan Gosling - Casio A168WA-1

The photo everyone points to is a shoot: white shirt, arms crossed, Casio in frame because a stylist left it there. What makes it interesting is everywhere else it shows up. Gosling wore the same A168WA-1 at LAX in a cardigan with no cameras arranged for him, and on stage fronting Dead Man's Bones, the goth-indie band he formed with Zach Shields that toured through 2010 with local children's choirs backing every show. At the same time he had a vintage Rolex Air-King with a tropical dial sitting in his collection. Both watches say the same thing about him: the object that's right, not the one that announces itself. This was years before TAG Heuer signed him, before Barbie gave Ken a different watch for every wrist. The A168WA-1 costs about $20 to $30 and was simply what he reached for.

Ewan McGregor - Casio F-91W

McGregor and Charley Boorman were Bremont's first field testers back on 2007's Long Way Down, wearing serious mechanical watches across a serious expedition. For 2020's Long Way Up, riding electric Harley-Davidson LiveWires from the southern tip of Argentina to Los Angeles, McGregor set that relationship aside for a $20 Casio F-91W weighing about 21 grams, a fraction of the weight of anything mechanical. Ten-hour stretches in the saddle mean a heavier watch knocks against the handlebar and drags at the wrist by hour eight. He'd repeat the logic on Long Way Home, switching to a $50 Timex Expedition. Across 13,000 miles on bikes that needed recharging overnight in places with no reliable grid, the F-91W wasn't a downgrade. It was the correct tool for a trip built around removing friction.

Idris Elba - Casio A168WG-9

Elba's collection reads like a tour of the industry's upper tiers: an IWC Mark XVIII, a Cartier Santos 100, a solid yellow gold Rolex Day-Date, a run as the face of Gucci's watch division. He's also been photographed more than once in a $65 gold-tone Casio A168WG-9, and not as a styling joke that ran once. It keeps coming back. In 2024 he wore a $450 Brew Metric, a retro meca-quartz chronograph from a small American microbrand, with the same ease he wears the Casio. The pattern across both is rarer than it sounds: most actors with access to anything wear the cheap watch for the cameras, a calculated bit of relatability. Elba wears his because it was already on the dresser.

Kristen Stewart - Casio LA-11WB-1WCB

Stewart's style has always leaned understated with the occasional deliberately odd choice, and the LA-11WB-1WCB fits without straining to make a point. It's a tiny 26mm women's digital in a gold-tone case, part of Casio's smallest standard line. There's no red carpet story attached to this one, no ceremony or interview it can be pinned to. It's simply a watch she's been photographed wearing, on an actor whose whole aesthetic runs toward not explaining herself.

Eric Andre - Casio F91WC-2A

Casio F91WC-2A

Amelia Dimoldenberg built Chicken Shop Date on one premise: low-stakes celebrity interviews in a chicken shop, deadpan format doing all the work. She promoted Eric Andre's June 2024 episode as "potentially my most outrageous date yet," and it pulled 2.7 million views in three days. Andre wore a light blue Casio F91WC-2A for it, a color variant of the same F-91W module that Barack Obama wore in black and that a 2011 Guantanamo detention manual flagged as commonly used by bomb-making instructors. Same movement, same specs, one color changed. On a comedian whose entire career proposition is that anything stable can be destabilized, the blue F-91W sits exactly where his other choices do: technically consistent, tonally slightly off.

Sting - Casio H110

Photos of Sting from the early 1980s show a man not dressed to be seen. The H-110 Marlin on his wrist during The Police's breakthrough years was a 1980 alarm chronograph with 100 metre water resistance and a five-year Lithium battery in a screw-back steel case, serious specs for a mass-market digital at the time. The Police released Zenyatta Mondatta that same year. He went on to wear G-Shocks by the late 1980s, but the H-110 came first, before G-Shock existed. Long out of production, it now trades only on the vintage secondary market.

Sting - Casio J-100

The J-100 Pace Runner, photographed on Sting by Terry O'Neill at The Police's commercial peak, wasn't styling. Sports Illustrated described it at its 1981 US launch as "like strapping a coach to your arm." You entered your stride length, picked from 69 pace levels, and it beeped at the exact moment each foot should hit the ground, then calculated distance, speed, and steps at the end. Sting maintained a documented running practice through the 1980s and 90s alongside yoga and touring. Most musicians photographed by O'Neill that era were wearing whatever a stylist handed them. Sting was wearing a jogging calculator with 69 configurable settings.

Tyler, the Creator - Casio MQ24-9B

Tyler owns Cartier pieces worth more than a million dollars combined and has spoken publicly about the collection. He's also regularly photographed in a cream-dial Casio MQ24-9B that costs around $15, a plain analog watch with no backlight and no complications beyond hours, minutes, and seconds. GQ featured it in a 2019 profile, and it's stuck since. A serious collector defaulting to a $15 Casio isn't an accident. It's a position: the price of a watch and the interest of a watch are separate questions, and Tyler answers both at once.

Casey Neistat - Casio AE1200-1A

Neistat is rarely seen without a Casio, and the AE1200-1A World Time is one of his most worn. It tracks multiple time zones, costs around $25, and shows up in vlog after vlog regardless of what he's doing that day. For a filmmaker who has built an entire persona around not overthinking gear, it's close to a thesis statement in watch form.

Louis Theroux - Casio F-91W

For his 2024 documentary Louis Theroux Interviews... The Manosphere, Theroux spent his time with men who've built entire platforms on projecting status. He turned up to conduct those interviews in a $20 Casio F-91W, the same watch worn by Barack Obama and flagged in a 2011 Guantanamo manual as a bomb-maker's watch of choice. Interviewing men obsessed with signaling wealth while wearing the least status-conscious watch in production might be the most on-brand thing Theroux could do.

Senna won 41 Grands Prix and three world championships, in 1988, 1990, and 1991, and was arguably the fastest driver of his generation. Well before that, in Formula Ford and Formula Three, before TAG Heuer signed him as an ambassador around 1985, well-known podium photographs show him wearing a Casio C-80 calculator watch that cost roughly the price of a tank of petrol. Senna came from a wealthy Brazilian family, so this was never about budget. It's a specific window in his career: the years before a watch deal existed, when the choice was entirely his own.

Serena Williams - Casio CA-53W-1

Williams wore a Casio CA-53W-1, a calculator watch that's cost about $20 in roughly the same form since 1988, on the day she won her fifth Wimbledon title, beating Agnieszka Radwańska 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 on July 7, 2012. It's the same model Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future, though that connection did nothing to move the price. 2012 was one of the most concentrated years of her career: Wimbledon in July, Olympic gold on the same grass in August, the US Open in September. On the day she took her fifth Wimbledon, she was wearing a $20 watch that also does arithmetic.

At the 2022 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, football's most recognized individual award, Karim Benzema took home the trophy wearing a Richard Mille RM 65-01 worth over $500,000. Lewandowski, who finished second in a result that was publicly debated at the time, wore a $70 gold-tone Casio A158WETG-9AEF, part of Casio's Vintage line dating back to the 1980s. He attended the ceremony, accepted the outcome, and wore the Casio anyway. Whether that reads as indifference or a very specific kind of confidence is worth sitting with.

Gerard Piqué - Casio A158WA

Piqué won a World Cup, a Champions League, and nine La Liga titles across 14 seasons at Barcelona, and wears a $25 Casio A158WA to press conferences and training arrivals. The watch got an unplanned second act in January 2023, when Shakira released "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" with Bizarrap, aimed squarely at her ex. One line: "You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio." Casio and Renault both leaned into the free publicity on social media, and Piqué later partnered with Casio directly, visibly unbothered by being the industry's punchline for a season. The A158WA itself has been in continuous production since 1983, unchanged, which is more than can be said for most of what happened around it in 2023.

The night PSG beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 Champions League final, the biggest prize in European club football, Luis Enrique coached from the touchline and celebrated on the pitch wearing a Casio CA-53WPC-1B, the Pac-Man edition of Casio's classic calculator watch released for the game's 40th anniversary. It retails for about $80. A squad assembled for over a billion euros, organized by a man wearing the same watch Walter White wore in Breaking Bad, with cartoon ghosts on the dial.

Barack Obama - Casio F-91W

Obama wore an F-91W years before the White House, in photos from long before anyone was paying attention to what was on his wrist. At around $15, it's widely considered the best-selling digital watch ever made, unchanged in any meaningful way since 1989. The watch became a talking point later mostly because of the company it keeps: the same model was flagged in a 2011 Guantanamo manual as commonly worn by bomb-making instructors, and it's turned up on wrists across every part of the cultural spectrum since. On Obama, it read simply as practicality that didn't need explaining.

Gates is worth over $100 billion, and his most photographed daily watch is a $50 Casio Duro. He wore one on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the clip did more for the watch's reputation than any Casio ad campaign could. It's not a basic watch: 200 metre water resistance, a proper rotating dive bezel with a ratchet click, 44mm steel case. It gets compared to a Rolex Submariner in watch forums for the visual language, at a fraction of the price and with a movement that never needs servicing.

A separate appearance, a separate Casio: a resin dive watch worn with a suit. The plastic case and utilitarian dial sit oddly against formal clothing, an unintentional contrast that ends up feeling exactly right for one of the wealthiest people alive choosing function over occasion every time.

A third Casio, and a different function again. The W-214H-1AV is an alarm chronograph with three circular sub-displays tracking stopwatch functions in an analog-style layout, a step up in complexity from the Duro or the F-91W. Gates has been photographed in it on more than one occasion, spotted by the watch-identification account @watchopea. Between the Duro for durability and the W-214H for timing intervals, there's a system to how Gates uses his watches. He's just never explained it.
