Every Watch in the Jurassic Park Franchise - Intro

Jurassic Park has produced six films and a wristwatch identification that has stumped watch collectors for going on eight years. Richard Attenborough's John Hammond spends the original film insisting he spared no expense, and the watch on his wrist looks the part: gold case, ornate dial, twin blue sub-registers. Several watch outlets have called it an IWC Da Vinci Moonphase. It is not. It is a Pulsar, and it cost about as much as dinner at Hammond's own resort. That correction is one of fourteen watches in this list, spanning six films and thirty-two years, from a 1945 military-issue Waltham to a Rolex built from scratch for a fictional chaos theorist.

Alan Grant - Waltham Vintage Military

Dr. Alan Grant spends Jurassic Park more comfortable at a dig site than at a dinner table, and his watch matches that instinct exactly: a Waltham military field watch issued to American soldiers during the Second World War. Identifying it took years of frame-by-frame forum analysis, since four American manufacturers, Waltham, Hamilton, Bulova, and Elgin, all used the same 1917-H case standard during the war. The gap between the hand pivot and the sub-seconds dial, and the placement of the brand text relative to the 11, point most consistently to Waltham. Sam Neill's own father served in the British military, which may or may not be a coincidence. Cream dial, Arabic numerals, sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock, hand-wound mechanical movement, canvas strap. Grant studies creatures that went extinct 65 million years ago. His watch is from 1945. On him, that reads as practically new.

Ellie Sattler - Timex Expedition

While Hammond theorizes and Malcolm predicts, Ellie Sattler fixes things, including, by the end of the film, the power grid of an island full of escaped predators. Her watch is a Timex Expedition: blue dial, brown leather strap, 24-hour markings, under fifty dollars. The Expedition line launched in the early 1990s as a durable field watch for hikers and outdoor researchers, arriving on the market at almost exactly the same time as the film went into production. Jurassic Park gives each of its scientists a watch that describes them before they speak. Hammond's Pulsar looks like something it isn't. Grant's Waltham is old and military. Malcolm's Hanhart is precise and dramatic. Sattler's fifty-dollar Timex works in every condition, and she's the one who actually gets the park running again.

Ian Malcolm - Hanhart Vintage Chronograph

Ian Malcolm tells John Hammond the park will fail before it even opens, and on his wrist through the entire film is a vintage Hanhart chronograph from the 1940s or 50s: black dial, gold Arabic numerals, two sub-registers, an oversized crown, "Hanhart 17 Steine" legible if you look closely. Hanhart was founded in 1882 in the Black Forest and supplied precision chronographs to the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War, built for legibility under pressure with long rectangular pushers designed for operation in gloves. The exact reference has never been pinned to a model number, but the design places it firmly in that postwar military-instrument lineage. For a character who positions himself explicitly outside conventional thinking, a vintage German pilot chronograph nobody asked him to wear is exactly the right kind of unconventional. By Dominion, thirty years later, he's wearing a Rolex built specifically for him. In 1993, he's wearing something that looks like it chose him first.

John Hammond - Pulsar V336-7040

Pulsar V336-7040

John Hammond has cloned dinosaurs, built a private island resort, and insists throughout Jurassic Park that he spared no expense. His watch says otherwise. It is a Pulsar V336-7040, a Japanese quartz dress watch with a cream dial, red chapter ring, and two blue sub-dials showing day and date, and it has been misidentified online as an IWC Da Vinci Moonphase for years, repeated across watch publications and forums without anyone checking the movement. It is neither an IWC nor a moonphase. Pulsar launched as the world's first digital watch brand under Hamilton in 1972, became a Seiko sub-brand in 1978, and has made affordable dress watches ever since. The V336-7040 sold new for somewhere between $100 and $200, roughly the cost of dinner at Hammond's own resort restaurant. He spared no expense on dinosaurs, on an amber-topped cane, on a chef flown in from San Francisco. His watch cost less than the meal. Either it never occurred to him, or it simply didn't matter.

Alan Grant - Oris Big Crown BC3 Day-Date 7500

Eight years after the original film, Alan Grant is brought back to Isla Sorna under false pretences, and the Waltham on his wrist has been replaced by an Oris Big Crown BC3 Day-Date, calibre 7500: black dial, large Arabic numerals, black rubber strap, day and date windows. Oris has operated independently out of Hölstein, Switzerland since 1904, and the Big Crown name refers to an oversized winding crown originally built so pilots could adjust the time without removing flight gloves. It's a different piece from a different era than his 1945 military Waltham, but the logic hasn't changed. Grant doesn't wear dress watches. He wears things that tell the time and survive the day, which makes the Oris exactly the kind of watch an underpaid academic doing fieldwork would own and simply forget to replace.

Jurassic World (2015)
07

Owen Grady - G-Shock GD-100-1B

G-Shock GD-100-1B
Owen Grady - G-Shock GD-100-1BCredit: © Universal Pictures

Owen Grady trains velociraptors at a functioning dinosaur theme park, and he wears his G-Shock GD-100-1B the way military personnel are trained to: face turned inward, toward the wrist, to protect the crystal and reduce visibility during physical work. All-black, 55.5mm case, seven-year battery, 200-metre water resistance, around $80 to $100. It's a watch chosen for the job, not the moment, which becomes relevant three years later when Fallen Kingdom puts him in something newer, and Dominion quietly puts him right back.

Vic Hoskins - Oris Artix GT Chronograph

Vic Hoskins - Oris Artix GT ChronographCredit: © Universal Pictures

Vic Hoskins runs InGen's security operation at Jurassic World and spends the film trying to convince everyone that raptors make better weapons than research subjects. His watch, an Oris Artix GT Chronograph, backs up the idea that he thinks differently than the people around him: instead of a conventional subdial, the seconds run along a linear display across the dial, an unusual layout on an already unusual-looking chronograph. Automatic movement, stainless steel case, sapphire crystal. A bold, slightly aggressive piece for a character whose entire pitch in the film is that the park's rules don't go far enough.

Barry Sembène - Oris TT1 Chronograph

Oris TT1 Chronograph 01 674 7659 4764-07 4 25 06B
Barry Sembène - Oris TT1 ChronographCredit: Universal Pictures / Amblin Entertainment

Barry Sembène works alongside Owen Grady training raptors, and years before Omar Sy became the face of Netflix's Lupin, he wore an Oris TT1 Chronograph on Jurassic World: black PVD case, red accent ring on the bezel, tachymeter scale, rubber strap. The TT1 name references the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, one of the most dangerous events in motorsport, and Oris built the line to survive exactly that kind of pressure: legible fast, anti-reflective, a bezel scale that actually earns its place. The Oris Calibre 674 inside is based on the Valjoux 7750, a chronograph movement with decades of reliability behind it. A racing watch in the middle of a dinosaur theme park reads as an odd choice until you remember what Barry's job actually requires of him.

Zia Rodriguez - Swatch Piste Noire SUSW407

Swatch Piste Noire SUSW407

Zia Rodriguez left the Marines to specialize in dinosaur veterinary medicine, and by the time Fallen Kingdom introduces her, she is unshakeable in a way almost nobody else in the film manages to be. Her Swatch Piste Noire, reference SUSW407 from the brand's 2017 Spring/Summer collection, is white with a black bezel, three chronograph subdials, a glow-in-the-dark function, and a retail price of around $80. Exactly the kind of watch a former Marine turned field scientist picks: light, legible, waterproof enough, and cheap enough that losing it to a dinosaur incident wouldn't register as a real loss.

Owen Grady - G-Shock GA-700-1BER

G-Shock GA-700-1BER
Owen Grady - G-Shock GA-700-1BERCredit: Universal Pictures

By Fallen Kingdom, Owen Grady has traded the all-digital G-Shock from the first film for a G-Shock GA-700-1BER, part of Casio's analog-digital line: the same black, oversized build, but now with hands and hour markers layered over the digital display where there weren't any before. Quartz movement, black resin case, 51mm across and 17mm thick, mineral crystal, LED backlight, world time, water resistance to 200 metres, around a three-year battery life, retail near $90. It's a real upgrade on paper, and it tracks with how much the story around him has darkened: an active volcano and a black-market dinosaur auction have replaced a functioning theme park. Whether the newer watch earns its keep is a different question. Four years later, in Dominion, Grady is back in exactly what he started with.

Ian Malcolm - Rolex Milgauss MAD Paris Custom

Thirty years after the vintage Hanhart he wore in the original film, Ian Malcolm returns in Dominion with a watch built specifically for him: a Rolex Milgauss 116400GV, fully coated in black DLC by the Paris customization house MAD Paris, with "IM" printed on the dial for Ian Malcolm and "MAD" for the atelier that built it, and a T-Rex engraved into the caseback. The Milgauss itself was introduced by Rolex in 1956 for scientists working near strong electromagnetic fields, rated to withstand up to 1,000 gauss, which is either a coincidence or the most on-brand watch choice in the franchise for a chaos theorist who has spent three decades being right about instability. The Milgauss was discontinued by Rolex in 2023. This particular one was never for sale to begin with.

Alan Grant - Bremont Martin-Baker II

Bremont Martin Baker II

Twenty years after Jurassic Park III, Alan Grant returns in Dominion wearing a Bremont MB II, the strap swapped from standard canvas to a worn brown leather that reads more like something Grant actually owns than something wardrobe issued him. Bremont built the MB II in collaboration with Martin-Baker, the company responsible for more aircraft ejection seat systems than anyone else in the world, technology credited with saving more than 7,600 lives across over 70 air forces. The Martin-Baker mark sits on the white dial, and a B-brace system protects the crown to the same anti-shock specification used in the ejection seats themselves. Grant has spent three films now proving he'd rather be excavating fossils than anywhere near a living dinosaur. A watch engineered to survive catastrophic force is, by this point in his life, a reasonable thing to have on.

Owen Grady - G-Shock GD-100-1B

G-Shock GD-100-1B
Owen Grady - G-Shock GD-100-1BCredit: Universal Pictures

By Dominion, Owen Grady has gone back to the all-digital G-Shock GD-100-1B he wore in the very first Jurassic World, the same reference Fallen Kingdom briefly swapped out for the analog-digital GA-700-1BER. All-black resin case, 55.5 by 51.5 by 17.8mm, quartz movement, LED backlight, five alarms, world time, a countdown timer, seven-year battery life, and water resistance to 200 metres, retail around $80 to $100. Across three films and roughly seven years of story time, that's one upgrade and one reversal, more consideration than most background equipment gets in a blockbuster franchise. Grady spends the trilogy proving he knows exactly what a job requires and nothing more. Going back to the watch that worked the first time, after trying something newer, is the most in-character decision his wardrobe department ever makes.

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)

Zora Bennett - CWC GS Sapphire

Scarlett Johansson leads Jurassic World Rebirth as Zora Bennett, a covert operations specialist recruited to extract dinosaur DNA from the most dangerous specimens left on Earth. Her watch, a CWC GS Sapphire, comes from a small British manufacturer that has supplied the UK Armed Forces for decades: unglamorous, purpose-built, the kind of tool watch that shows up on the wrists of people whose jobs don't leave room for anything decorative. Stainless steel, sapphire crystal, 200-metre water resistance, 36.5mm case. A grounded, unshowy choice for the lead of a summer blockbuster, and that restraint is the point.

Henry Loomis - Omega Railmaster

Henry Loomis - Omega RailmasterCredit: Universal Pictures

In 1957, Omega released three watches together as what became known as the Professional Trilogy: the Speedmaster for racing drivers, the Seamaster 300 for divers, and the Railmaster for scientists and railway engineers working around strong magnetic fields, its inner case built from Mu-metal to form a Faraday cage around the movement. It has always been the quiet member of the three. Jonathan Bailey wears the 2017 60th-anniversary reissue, limited to 3,557 pieces, as Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist and student of Alan Grant, in Jurassic World Rebirth. Original list price was $6,800. For a character defined by academic caution in a franchise defined by the opposite, a watch engineered specifically to resist chaos is a fitting inheritance from his mentor's own field-watch instincts.

Reuben Delgado - Luminox Leatherback Sea Turtle XS.0301.L

Luminox Leatherback Sea Turtle XS.0301.L
Reuben Delgado - Luminox Leatherback Sea Turtle XS.0301.LCredit: Universal Pictures

Reuben Delgado takes his family out for one last sailing trip before his daughter leaves home, and it goes about as badly as anything can go in this franchise: a mosasaurus capsizes the boat, and the family spends the night in open water calling for rescue on a salvaged radio. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo's performance was singled out by multiple critics as the standout of the film, playing a character who holds together under pressure better than most of the trained operatives around him. His Luminox Leatherback Sea Turtle XS.0301.L, named for the turtle-like silhouette created by its crown guard, has a lightweight Carbonox case, a Swiss Ronda 515 quartz movement, and Luminox's tritium illumination system, glowing for up to 25 years without light or a battery charge. Reuben didn't choose how this trip ended. The watch on his wrist was ready for it anyway.
