The Watches of Succession, Ranked Cheapest to Most Expensive - Intro

Succession never says out loud what a character's watch costs, it doesn't have to. Prop master Monica Jacobs built most of the show's watch choices from scratch, sitting down with each actor to talk through who they saw the character as before picking pieces to try on. For the final season, the production brought in Hodinkee's own Danny Milton to help nail down Cousin Greg, Hugo, and Karolina specifically, drafting multi-page personality profiles for each character before suggesting a single watch. Here is every identified watch from the series, ranked strictly by price, from the cheapest thing anyone wears to the most expensive watch in the entire show, worn to a funeral.

Hugo Baker - Panerai Radiomir PAM00380

Hugo Baker is Waystar's PR fixer, the person paid to make problems disappear quietly before anyone else finds out there was a problem, and the cheapest watch in this entire ranking belongs to him. When Hodinkee's Danny Milton came aboard to help cast the show's later watches, he considered a Breitling, an IWC Spitfire Chronograph, and a Tudor Black Bay 58 for Hugo before landing on the Radiomir instead. "He would zag when it comes to what Panerai he would choose," Milton said of the character, a man who thinks differently from everyone else in the room precisely because his job depends on it. Fisher Stevens, who plays Hugo, liked the watch enough to start wearing it off set. At $3,000, it sits at the bottom of Succession's watch economy without looking cheap, which is exactly the trick a fixer needs his own presentation to pull off.

Roman Roy - IWC Pilot's Watch IW324008

Roman Roy wore a Rolex Datejust from Season 1 through most of Season 4 before switching to an IWC Pilot's Watch, 36mm case, blue sunray dial, first spotted around Season 4, Episode 4. The show's prop team confirmed the switch was a conscious decision, describing it as Roman spreading his wings. GQ confirms IWC supplied a run of watches across Season 4 for Roman, Frank, and Greg specifically, part of the same wardrobe overhaul that pushed several characters toward more serious pieces in the final stretch. It is the first time a Roy sibling's watch reflects something other than family money, a small, cheap-relative-to-everyone-around-him signal that Roman is trying to become a person independent of his father's balance sheet, even if the watch itself still costs more than most people's rent.

Tom wears this Panerai in Succession's pilot episode, on the same wrist that hands Logan a Patek Philippe as a birthday gift moments later, the scene that defines Tom's entire arc: a man who understands the price of things before he understands their meaning. The camera never reveals which Patek is actually in the box. By the end of the episode, that unseen watch has been repurposed as payment to a working-class family in exchange for signing an NDA about Roman's behavior at the family softball game, the first sign in the whole series that a Roy-adjacent watch is worth more as leverage than as an object. At $5,000, the Panerai is the cheapest watch Tom wears across the whole show. His own watches only get more serious as the series goes on.

Greg Hirsch - IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph IW377710

IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph IW377710

Greg Hirsch starts Succession with nothing, shredding documents in a mascot costume before anyone in the family bothers learning his name. By the time an IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph appears on his wrist, at $5,000, something has changed. Not everything. Greg is still Greg. But it is enough money and enough proximity to buy a genuinely serious watch, and in Succession's economy, that particular upgrade tells you exactly how far he has climbed without anyone needing to say it out loud.

Drive De Cartier Moonphase WSNM0017

The Drive de Cartier Moonphase is a refined dress watch with a complication that serves no practical purpose, which makes it a strange choice for a man still learning what the room actually wants from him. Tom wears it during the stretch of Succession where he is performing refinement rather than inhabiting it, $6,000 spent on looking like the kind of person who already belongs. The moonphase tracks the lunar cycle. Tom is tracking something else entirely.

Logan Roy - JLC Rendez-Vous 3548490

Logan Roy wears one watch across most of Succession, and it is not the obvious choice for the most powerful man in the room. At $6,500, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous costs less than several of his children's watches, which is exactly the point. Jaeger-LeCoultre manufactures movements for more watch brands than any other maker on the planet. Logan buys the source, not the label, the same instinct that built an empire out of buying the companies that make the things other people sell.

Roman Roy - Rolex Datejust 126300 (smooth bezel, silver dial)

Rolex Datejust 126300
Roman Roy - Rolex Datejust 126300 (smooth bezel, silver dial)Credit: HBO

Roman Roy has a gift for undermining himself, running a global media empire while performing inadequacy as a defense mechanism, and his watch plays the same game. Across most of Succession he keeps returning to a Rolex Datejust 126300 in its plainest form: smooth bezel, silver dial, steel Oyster bracelet, no fluting, no Day-Date, nothing that finishes the sentence "I have money." Where Kendall's Patek broadcasts ambition, Roman's Datejust broadcasts nothing in particular, which in a family that reads wrists like other people read faces, is its own kind of statement. The 126300 is Rolex's 41mm smooth-bezel Datejust, running caliber 3235 with a 70-hour power reserve, currently retailing from around $9,150 and trading above that on the secondary market. Roman could have worn a fluted bezel, a two-tone case, any of the louder options sitting one shelf over. He kept coming back to the one that just tells the time.

Siobhan "Shiv" Roy - Cartier Panthère (steel) WSPN0059

Cartier Panthere WSPN0019

The steel Panthère, at $7,000, is the quieter version of the same watch Shiv wears elsewhere in gold. Same linked bracelet, same rectangular case, a fraction of the price. The Panthère takes its name from Cartier's signature animal, and the linked bracelet is built to move the way the cat does, a detail that shows up on both versions Shiv wears. In Succession's wardrobe, which Panthère is on her wrist tells you something about what the scene actually needs from her: the steel version is Shiv doing business, not Shiv making an entrance.

Roman Roy - Rolex Datejust 126300 (Roman numerals dial)

Rolex Datejust 126300

A second Datejust 126300 shows up on Roman later in the series, and this one has a detail the smooth silver-dial version doesn't: Roman numerals on the dial. Roman wearing Roman numerals. Whether the production intended the joke has never been confirmed, but it is a strange coincidence if it wasn't one. This version keeps the same 41mm Oystersteel case, caliber 3235, and 70-hour power reserve, priced around $10,000 at retail, with the Cyclops lens over the date and the Oyster bracelet unchanged from his earlier piece. It surfaces mostly in the later seasons, once Roman's position in the company has clarified in ways the earlier years never predicted. In a show where Kendall wears a $265,000 Richard Mille and Tom has an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph, a steel Datejust still reads as conspicuously restrained on Roman. The show never points at the Roman numerals. It doesn't have to.

Greg Hirsch - Rolex Submariner 124060

Rolex Submariner 124060

Greg Hirsch is not wearing a Rolex Submariner in the first episode of Succession. He is wearing one later, at roughly $10,000, and the show never makes a moment of the upgrade, no line of dialogue, no reaction shot. That is exactly why it works: the audience is left to notice on its own that Greg's watch budget has quietly caught up to a Roy cousin's, which is a bigger story about this character than any speech could tell.

Tom Wambsgans - Cartier Santos CRW2SA0009

Tom cycles through watches across Succession as his position inside the family shifts, and the Santos, at $14,000, is an early entry: a considered, classically grounded choice for a man still figuring out what the room requires of him. It is also a couple's watch by accident. Shiv wore Cartier through most of the show's run, and GQ notes the habit rubbed off on Tom directly while they were together, matching bracelets on two different wrists at two very different price points. Cartier designed the Santos for a pioneer who knew exactly where he was going. Tom, at this point in the show, is still working that out.

Connor Roy - Breitling for Bentley H13363 Limited Edition

Connor Roy is the eldest Roy sibling, the one nobody in the family takes seriously and the one running a vanity presidential campaign nobody asked him to run. His Breitling for Bentley, at $18,000, is fittingly the only watch spotted on him across the entire show, one appearance in roughly 1,200 stills. A man this expensive to ignore, wearing a watch this expensive, and somehow still the least discussed person in every room he enters.

Siobhan "Shiv" Roy - Pasha de Cartier CRWGPA0007

Pasha De Cartier CRWGPA0007

The Pasha has one instantly recognizable detail: a small chain securing the crown to the case, a design touch that dates back to when Cartier built it for the Pasha of Marrakech in the 1930s. Shiv wears it in yellow gold, at $25,000, and would have been entirely fine with that provenance, a watch commissioned for a man who ruled a place rather than merely worked in one.

Siobhan "Shiv" Roy - Cartier Panthère (yellow gold) WGPN0059

Cartier Panthere WGPN0059

The Panthère in yellow gold, at $28,000, is the most luxurious version of a watch Cartier introduced in 1983. Shiv wears both the gold and the steel across Succession, and the gold consistently shows up in the higher-stakes scenes, boardrooms, confrontations, the moments where she needs the metal on her wrist to argue her case before she opens her mouth. That is not an accident.

The Royal Oak Chronograph, at $43,000, is not the watch of someone still figuring out where he stands in this family. Danny Milton, who helped consult on the show's later watch choices, called the pick "so on point with his finicky wine taste, his outward love of his luxury lifestyle, and his desire to never give that up." Tom wearing it marks a specific turn in Succession, a jump in both price and posture from the Cartier he wore earlier: his earlier watches asked the room for acceptance. This one does not ask anything of anybody.

Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44 RB0136E31Q1S1

Rose gold, brown dial, $45,000: the Breitling Super Chronomat reads athletic and expensive without leaning hard on either quality. In Kendall's rotation, where almost everything else is Patek, Vacheron, or Richard Mille, a Breitling is the outlier, the one purchase that doesn't fit the pattern everyone else on this list has learned to expect from him. That is the point. Even Kendall's inconsistencies are load-bearing.

In Season 2, Episode 8, Kendall Roy raps at his father's birthday party. Under the chains and the unzipped tracksuit, on his wrist, is a Vacheron Constantin Harmony Chronograph in rose gold, retailing above $47,000. The rap does not go well. The watch, unlike the performance, is genuinely excellent, which might be the most Kendall detail in the entire show.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15450BA.OO.1256BA.01

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in yellow gold, at $75,000, is the most architectural watch in Succession's entire wardrobe. Gerald Genta designed it in 1972 on an overnight brief, and it remains the watch that changed what a luxury sports watch was allowed to look like. Gerri Kellman wears it, and in a show built almost entirely out of status signaling, the Royal Oak does not signal anything. It simply defines the terms everyone else is signaling against.

A perpetual calendar needs no adjustment until the year 2100. Kendall Roy owns one, at $75,000, and where the Nautilus signals status through scarcity and the Harmony Chronograph signals it through occasion, this is the collector's pick: a classical complication worn by someone who has moved past needing to explain the purchase to anybody in the room, including himself.

Kendall Roy - Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A
Kendall Roy - Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1ACredit: HBO

Kendall wears a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A, and the timing of the purchase says almost as much as the watch does. Patek discontinued this exact reference in January 2021, while Succession was still airing, and secondary market prices had already climbed past $100,000 on a watch with an original retail of around $34,000. The watch is visible peeking out from his sleeve in one of the show's quieter scenes, as he hugs his two children, a rare moment where the Nautilus is on screen without anyone in the room needing to notice it. On Kendall, every purchase usually functions as a performance for an audience. At $120,000, the 5711 is the most expensive one that, for once, isn't.

Kendall Roy - Richard Mille RM 67-01

Richard Mille RM 67-01

Jeremy Strong told GQ directly where this one came from: "Amanda Mille, who runs the Richard Mille company, gave me a watch to wear for Kendall." He wore it throughout the fourth and final season, including to his own father's funeral, and has since called putting a six-figure Richard Mille on for that scene one of the funniest things he's ever gotten to do in the role. The RM 67-01 is skeletonized, titanium, and unusually thin for a Richard Mille, engineered to disappear on the wrist rather than announce itself. Secondary market listings for it have run anywhere from the $180,000s into the price on this list. In a show where every single detail is considered before it reaches screen, wearing the most expensive watch in the entire series to bury someone is not an accident, and neither is the actor's own joke about it.

Kendall Roy - Unidentified Dress Watch

One Kendall watch resists this ranking entirely. A slim dress watch, white dial, Roman numerals, a shadow of a logo near 12 o'clock that reads like it could belong to Patek's Calatrava family, has never been confirmed by anyone, including us. Kendall already owns a Nautilus, a Vacheron, and a Richard Mille on this list alone. Whatever this one turns out to be, it would not be the most expensive thing he has ever worn to prove a point. It just might be the only one nobody has priced yet.
